Israel said early Tuesday that its forces had crossed into Lebanon in an operation aimed at Hezbollah targets in the border region, the first Israeli ground invasion in the country since 2006.

Israel appears to have committed fewer soldiers to the opening phase of its Lebanon invasion than it did to the invasion of Gaza last October. The Israeli military said on Tuesday that a single division — which typically numbers more than 10,000 soldiers — was involved in the Lebanon operation overnight, and it was unclear how many of the troops had crossed the border. By contrast, the military invaded Gaza with two divisions, even though Gaza is far smaller and flatter than southern Lebanon.

Israel and Hezbollah have fought wars before, most recently in 2006, a monthlong conflict that ended with a United Nations cease-fire resolution calling on both sides to retreat from a 20-mile buffer zone in southern Lebanon along Israel’s northern border.

But Hezbollah never withdrew from the region, and

The additional forces, which one official placed at between 2,000 and 3,000, will bolster security for the 40,000 U.S. troops already in the region and help defend Israel, officials said.

Israeli commando units have made brief incursions into Lebanon in recent days to prepare for a possible wider ground invasion, according to several Israeli officers and officials and a senior Western official. But American officials said on Monday that they believed that the invasion would be limited.

The Israeli and Western officials said the raids were focused on gathering intelligence about Hezbollah’s positions near the border, as well as identifying the Iranian-backed group’s tunnels and military infrastructure, in order to attack them from the air or the ground. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive military matter. The Israeli military declined to comment.

    THURSDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2024

We are waiting for a hurricane.  Everything is calm out there.  The cats are not calm in here because nine cats were not allowed out for their morning walk.  There’s a stunning little bird on the feeder with an orange chest.

Eric Adams has been indicted.  Evidently, people tried to warn him not to drag old friends into office with him, but he didn’t listen.  He’s another one who thinks “loyalty” is the most important quality.  The charges center on money from other countries like Turkey.  There is also the selling of permissions that affect people in his administration.

What will be interesting is to see who is not charged, therefore, who might be cooperating with the government.  The indictment is sealed at the moment.

New York could have had Maya Wiley, but that would have upset all the pre-existing apple carts.

F…ing Trump blew off Zelensky and did not meet with him.  And, Trump made a statement that Ukraine should just give up.  “I spoke to Putin about it a lot.”  Trump is referring to the invasion of Ukraine.  “Ukraine is gone.”

It’s getting dark.  The hummers are coming to stock up on nectar before the storm and winds hit.

    10 AM.

A new generation of Latinos are young, English speaking, and wanting to be and be seen as part of America.  Thus, they join the assumed resentment for new immigrants and loudly claiming their status as Americans.

An alarming percentage of the Latino population is saying they will vote for Trump.

This is infuriating. The president and his foreign policy and national security team were alerted and warned for months that they were being taken for a ride by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who does not want and will resist any deal. But the Americans were confident they could rein him

  • SINWAR no

    September 22, 2024

    www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-09-22/ty-article/.premium/israel-investigating-if-sinwar-wounded-killed-or-has-severed-contact-with-outside-world/00000192-1b33-ddf9-a9fa-7f7f3cba0000

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has not had contact with anyone outside his organization for an extended period. Sinwar has been hiding in Gaza’s tunnels since the massacre in southern Israel on October 7, trying to evade Israeli pursuit.

For nearly 11 months, Sinwar maintained communication with his operatives outside the tunnels and, indirectly, with countries mediating a hostage deal with Israel, usually through intermediaries.

Recently, however, communication between Sinwar and the outside world has been cut off. This has further complicated the already difficult negotiations due to significant gaps between the parties’ positions.

Security officials told Haaretz that Israel has bombed tunnels in areas where Sinwar is believed to be hiding. However, they noted there is no clear evidence he was harmed, as no remains of his have been found. There have been previous instances during the war where Sinwar cut off communication.
