  • TURNING CRIMEA INTO AN ISLAND

    July 3, 2026

    Thursday 2 July 2026

    Russia:

    · Russia is due to hold elections for the lower house State Duma in September.

    · A member of the liberal Yabloko party was detained in Moscow on Thursday in connection with donations she allegedly made to a banned organization. Elena PEREPELIT, -60. was detained 8 days after Yabloco deputy leader was convicted of spreading false information about the Russian army and jailed for seven years. (The Moscow Times).

    · Residential neighborhoods are a legitimate target for Russian terrorists.

    Epstein:

    · Today is the deadline for Todd Blanche to comply with Judge Sullivan’s order in Katie Phang’s lawsuit over the Epstein files.

    Article:

Hockenos, Paul (7/2/26) The Strategy behind the battle for Crimea. Foreign Policy.

    · The 390 mile stretch – from Crimea to Rostov-on-Don is called the “Highway of Death” by Russian and Ukrainian soldiers.

    · The Ukrainians are incapacitating the coastal route along the Sea of Azov and “taken out Crimea’s northern bridges across the Chongar Strait.” They have “choked maritime supply routes and disrupted rail services, leaving the only practical route to Crimea the Kerch Bridge…” Most of the traffic on the Kerch bridge is people exiting Crimea.

    · “Ukraine has triggered critical fuel and ammunition shortages in Russian-occupied territories in the south around Zaporizhzhia and Kherson…” In one strike, Ukraine “torched ammunition and fuel bound for positions in Zaporizhzhia, along with up to 50 military vehicles.”

    · “The Crimea offensive is thus acutely hampering Russia’s ability to execute military operations in its southern theatres.”

    · They have reduced “Russia’s refining capacity by about a quarter….blackouts have paralyzed Sevastopol…” Gasoline sales were suspended for civilians.

    · The halting of fuel supplies “complicates troop rotations, the evacuation of wounded, and supply of weapons.”

    · Ukrainians are trying to turn Crimea “from a peninsula into an island…” the strategy is to strangle every supply route across occupied southern Ukraine.

    · Crimea is central for the distribution of supplies and sustainment through “either the land routes or Crimea.” Hopefully this will allow Ukraine to go on a counteroffensive and take back territory.

    · This is what is called “shaping the battlefield.” The Ukrainian weapon attacks force Russians to bypass the most cost-efficient routes and to “reroute convoys through circuitous detours…”

    · Ukraine, by exhausting Crimea, “exacerbates the already serious public discontent in occupied Crimea.”

    · Outages have even knocked out water pressure in parts of cities.

    · This ties down more and more of Russia’s resources containing dissent, diverting soldiers, and testing new ways to supply Crimea.

By threatening Crimea, Ukraine is sending a message that Putin’s invasion of the peninsula did not deliver the security he promised

  • ARTICLE. TAKING BACK CRIMEA

    July 3, 2026

On June 21, the governor of Russian-occupied Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, suspended gasoline sales to civilians and announced that only state and government agencies would receive fuel

In May, Ukraine’s defense ministry announced that a strategic “logistics lockdown” would turn Crimea from a peninsula into an island isolated from mainland Russia

Their range extends Russian supply lines by forcing military logistics to bypass the most cost-efficient routes within the strike zone. Russia is thus compelled to reroute convoys through circuitous detours, largely from the north.

We know that larger contingents of FSB personnel [Russia’s principal domestic security] are in Crimea, probably to deal with popular dissent.

If you completely trap someone and you block off all regress routes, then it changes the calculus for the adversary. Generally, you’ll want to leave an egress so that an adversary has an incentive to leave as opposed to dig in their heels and fight to the end.”

By threatening this Russian fortress, Ukraine is sending a message to the Russian people that President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the peninsula did not deliver the security that he promised in 2014.

  • LIFE AND NEWS NOTES FROM A CHILDLESS CAT LADY WRITING AWAY IN A SUB-BASEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF SNARK

    July 2, 2026

    TURSDAY 2 JULY 2026

    Ukraine

    · Kiev hit with massive Russian strike yesterday. The Russians are desperate and afraid. Not even the banks and the ATms work in Crimea and people are flooding out. The Russian government is removing government officials from Crimea. There are lines on the Ketch bridge.

    · Poland scrambled jets as neighboring countries monitored the Russian attack.

    · “A String of political victories and deep strikes successes by Ukraine has revived hopes that the war could be shifting in Kiev’s favor, though analysts warned that efforts to raise the conflicts costs for Russia risk triggering further escalation.” (CNBC)

    · “The incident underscored Ukraine’s growing military confidence… As well as highlighting Cubes understanding that it must continue to hit Russia where it hurts most by cutting Russia’s energy revenues. (CNBC)

    · (Foreign Policy, The Strategy Behind the Battle for Crimea, 7/2/26). “Ukrainian strikes have choked maritime upply routes and disrupted rail services, leaving the only practical route to Crimea the Ketch Bridge….It is being hit too.”

    · For days now, blackouts have paralyzed Sevastopol, Crimea’s largest city. On June 21st, the governor of Russian occupied Crimea suspended gasoline sales to civilians and announced that only state and government agencies would receive fuel…. This restricts the use of military equipment and negatively impacts logistics. It complicates troop rotations, the evacuation of wounded and supply of weapons.”

    · “The aim of this systematic, multi pronged campaign is to strangle every supply route feeding Russia’s forces across the occupied southern Ukraine. Crimea serves as a critical logistics hub and rear area base for the entire southern front.”

    Life

    · Every morning when I get up I feel like a truck hit me. I must admit I have felt that way most of my life, but it is especially dreadful now that I am 75 and have been diagnosed with a connective tissue disease, Ehlers Danlos. Today, I have run out of pain medication and I’m trying to distract myself until my partner can drive over to the island to get my prescription. Working on the computer is the worst for my neck, well, the worst in comparison to driving a car. That’s the worst.

    · All the cats are outside for their morning walk, or exploration of the yard. Mike stays out there most of the time and periodically counts heads. Sam, the youngest, is always the most trouble. We have no idea where he goes and he sometimes takes hours to get back inside. He is so excited in the morning, he refuses to even eat breakfast before charging out the door.

    · We have to figure out a way to give Alva Edison, our cat who is “on the spectrum” his chin acne medicine. He will let us pet all over him, but when we start for the medicine, he disappears. They are way too smart for us.

    · Fight for Ukraine, Fight for Democracy, Fight for your health, your sanity, and the rights of us all.

    Alva Edison

    LIFE AND NEWS NOTES

    MONDAY 29 JUNE 2026

    Morning Joe

The Morning Joe panel is calling the DSA silly and stupid. The dreadful Mika is especially down on this woman, Chevalier. Chevalier, 32, beat sitting Representative Adriano Espaillat, in a stunning victory. Mayor Zohran Mamdani had “originally pledged to endorse her (Chevalier’s) opponent, the incumbent….” But, “the mayor backtracked…” (New York Times, Who is Darializa Avila Chevalier?)

Once again the panel is conflating socialism with remarks about Hamas and the police. I.e, if you are a socialist, you support Hamas. If you are a socialist, you advocate the abolition of the police.

I just received a Facebook notification that ICE is operative in our neighborhood today. Our Monday Morning Mexican crew has already left for the day so I can’t warn them. What a country.

    J. D. Vance is such a putz. He was on Bill Maher. Good lord what a collection of horrid people.

  • SATURDAY BLOG POST: STEVE BANNON, REPUBLICAN SCREAMING MATCH, GEORGIA FISH KILLED, TRUUMP AND THE COURT CONTINUE TO TRY TO DESTROY CUBA.

    June 27, 2026

    SATURDAY 27 JUNE 2026

LIFE AND NEWS NOTES FROM A CHILDLESS CAT LADY (per J.D. Vance) WORKING AWAY IN A SUB-BASEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF SNARK

    AMVO (Steve Bannon’s Channel)

Bannon’s show War Room is on a rant about Marxists. They are playing video of Trump thanking Texas for mandating religious (protestant) teaching in schools.

I watch Bannon’s channel for a little time every day. It’s good to know what the enemy is on about.

Bannon is raving about Mandani this morning. He is saying that people not born in America 1) hate America, and 2) won the election for Mandani.

The right won the vote in Texas but Bannon is whining about “Marxists” trying to win. It took a “monumental effort.”

    “Connect” with Jacob Soboroff

    · Closed door meeting with Trump descended into a screaming match.

    · There is a bipartisan housing bill that Trump, at the last minute, refused to sign. George Conway: Nothing is going to happen until this man is removed from office. There is “nothing in it for him” the housing bill. The housing bill, however, would, for example, prevent corporations from buying up single-family homes to rent out. This is something that has made it more and more difficult for people to buy houses.

    · Massey: “We’re bankrupting the country.”

    · Even with illegal redistricting, Republicans will lose the House and possible the Senate.

    · George Conway: Trump is mentally ill, and is becoming incedingly self-destructive. But, the problem is that the blast radius is large. The blast radius includes us. “He’s doing whatever he wants.” “It’s all about him and he’s going to take everybody down with him. And the question is do we have the moral courage as a country to put an end to this before he causes maximum destruction.”

    · Soboroff does a good section about the effects of climate change on people. Well worth watching. This is a show worth recording (which I do) and then coming back when you have time.

    · “the old communist bougybman.” Rekpublicans trying to divert argument.

    · The Mandami coalition:

(Just put the bird feeders back up. Yesterday I was afraid the bird/squirrel feeders were going to be blown through the windows, so I put them on the porch floor. The squirrels thought they had hit gold this morning when they found them. What a mess they make.) The titmice are back.

    APPLE NEWS

    · Both the U.S. and Iran claim their attacks in the Strait were responses to attacks by the other.

    LOCAL GEORGIA NEWS SHORTS

    · An unprecedented fish kill in the Chattahoochee river brooks caused by an overflow of oxygen depleted water from the city of Atlanta’s combined sewer system a report from the Georgia Department of natural resources said.

    ·

    NEW YORK TIMES SHORTS

    · “The trump administration backed Exxon mobil’s effort to be compensated for oil and gas assets confiscated by the Cuban government in 1960”

    · “The case was one of two disputes this term over the extent to which thousands of Americans can get compensation in US courts from entities that hold or profit from property taken by the Cuban government in may the justice is overwhelmingly sided with the US owned port business that sued major cruise lines that have used confiscated docks in Havana”

    · President trump is squeezing Cuba blocking oil shipments to the island from Venezuela and from Mexico the administration had backed exxon’s position in the case telling the justices that such a lawsuit was critical as a diplomatic tool for dissuading investment in Cuba yeah stop

    · “The three liberal justices dissented…. The statutes the majority sites she wrote says not one word on the topic of piercing the traditional immunity of foreign governments.”

    · (Note: After the revolution, U.S. investors tried to sue through the Justice Department. But decades later, “… Congress passed the Cuban liberty and democratic solidarity act also known as the Helms Burton act which declared that resolution of the property claims were a central condition for restoring economic and diplomatic ties with Cuba a provision of the law allowed Americans to sue in federal court over the trafficking or use of assets seized by the Cuban government until the first trump administration however president of presidents of both parties have suspended the provision permitting the lawsuits which reviewed it’s politically and diplomatically controversial.”

    · The U.S. however, sparked the trouble leading to the act in 1996. Cuban fighter jets shot down two planes flown by members of the Cuban exile group Brothers to the Rescue. (Note: After referred to as part of the Miami Mafia). Three U.S. citizens were killed. This incident was the basis of charges brought against Raul Castro in May by the Trump administration.

  • CHILDLESS CAT LADY, LIFE AND NEWS NOTES, TRUMP, “sir”, MIAMI MAFIA, HOUSING, COMMUNISTS, EBOLA, LEBANON, MEN SERVING IN IDF WITH WOMEN, MEN DRAFTED

    June 24, 2026

LIFE AND NEWS NOTES FROM A CHILDLESS CAT LADY WORKING AWAY IN ONE OF THE SUB-BASEMENTS OF THE MINISTRY OF SNARK

    Wednesday 24 June 2026

    Shorts from Morning Joe:

    · Ohhhhhh Goddddddd, Trump is doing his impersonation of the “Sir” person asking him about the propriety of letting Iran have missiles. “Sir,” he said…It is just all so humiliating and stupid and Marco Rubio (Mr. Sell Your Soul for Power enough to Destroy Cuba) stands beside Trump, looking like the most miserable person in the world.

    · That’s what you look like when you are mean as a snake and part of the Miami Mafia, just waiting to take revenge on every living soul in Cuba for trying to establish a new country. Aside from Trump, Rubio is just the trashiest…

    · It is my opinion that in Pennsylvania, Trump was pumped full of drugs.

    NYT Shorts:

    · Trump abruptly canceled signing a bipartisan housing measure and demanded that Republicans impose voting restrictions “despite their protests that the votes don’t exist to do so.” Trump wanted the Republicans to weaken the filibuster in order to pass an election overhaul bill, “…which would require proof of citizenship to register and substantially reduce the opportunity for voting by mail.”

    · Trump is criticizing Democrats by saying to reporters that they were “pushing communists” as elections candidates.

    · Ebola: On Wednesday French officials identified the first case of Ebola in the country. A doctor who had traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the virus. In Congo, the center of an outbreak in central Africa at least 260 people have died of Ebola and there have been more than 1,000 confirmed cases.

    Shorts Haaretz:

    · Netanyahu announces that Israel will not withdraw from Lebanon “as long as I am prime minister.” (Haaretz, 6/24/26).

    · Nationwide Haredi protests block traffic over IDF draft evaders’ arrest. “It is unacceptable for someone who studies Torah to be arrested like the last of the criminals,” ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party leader MK Yitzchak Goldknopf told Haaretz. Protests against conscription is not new but “an uptick has been recorded over the past several weeks, in response to the police’s decision to hand over to the Military police 19 yeshiva students arrested after the attempt to storm the home of Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg.”

    · “…it is becoming clear that, post-October 7, the ultra-Orthodox parties that have kept Netanyahu in power are increasingly becoming a burden rather than an asset to his bloc…”

    · (4/30/26) The High Court ruled that state authorities must immediately withhold financial benefits from draft-dodgers. The ruling “that was outstanding in its sharp tone,” determined that the state “must take away the discounts that yeshiva students currently receive in housing, property taxes, day care costs and public transportation from draft-dodging students.” The judges also ruled that the police must stop evading enforcing the law and start making arrets. In addition, the Attorney General said that donors funding institutions in which draft-dodgers are studying will not be eligible for tax benefits. United Torah Judaism’s Moshe Gafni, said: “This is a declaration of open war against the world of Torah and Judaism in the State o Israel.” Gafni called the prime minister asking that the Attorney General be fired.

    · (6/24/26) “…Rabbis of 25 yeshivas combining Jewish religious study with army service, said they will no longer allow students to serve in the armored corps citing women integration. The Israeli military is short of thousands of soldiers and needs every male and female soldier to fulfill its mission. “…the rabbis of 25 hesder yeshivas, which combine Jewish religious study with army service, have announced that they will no longer allow their students to serve in the armored corps ‘due to the integration of women combat soldiers.’ “In April, the High Court of Justice unanimously ruled that the Israel Defense Forces must allow women to apply for all combat rules.” In response to a question from Haaretz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said: “We’re lowering standards for the girls.”
