Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad rejected an Egyptian proposal that would see them relinquish control of Gaza in return for a permanent cease-fire.

PM Netanyahu was heckled by hostages’ families calling for an immediate deal to free those held by Hamas as he spoke in the Knesset. Netanyahu said military pressure is needed to free the hostages, and that Israel would intensify its offensive in Gaza in the coming days: “It will be a long fight, and it is not near its end.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohensaid Monday that he would deny visa requests from UN employees due to what he called its “cooperation” with Hamas “propaganda.”

A senior Islamic Revolutionary Guards commander responsible for coordinating the military alliance between Syria and Iran, Sayyed Razi Mousavi, was killed in an apparent Israeli assassination in the Damascus area, according to Reuters. Shortly after the report, Iran’s president said Israel “will certainly pay.”

The critique hasn’t come from rivals or detractors but rather, from allies. Biden is being criticized for being oblivious to and allegedly giving Israel free rein to indiscriminately bomb the Gaza Strip; for conspicuously refraining from exerting effective pressure on Israel to agree to a cease-fire or to change the modalities of the war and scale down its intensity; for not demanding more forcefully that Israel clarify its intentions for postwar Gaza; and for being hoodwinked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
