Israel’s High Court ordered on Thursday a freeze on funds for yeshivas that fail to send their students to military service.

The injunction is the latest in last-minute legal and political wrangling, which has reached a boiling point with the court deadline expiring Thursday.

The cabinet decision exempting draft-age ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students from conscription is set to expire on Monday, April 1, after which the state would be required by law to recruit them.
