President Trump lashed out at Ukraine, accusing its leaders of ingratitude.
Mr. Trump has set a deadline of Thursday for Ukraine to agree to the 28-point peace plan, an early draft of which many Ukrainians dismissed as capitulation because it acceded to longstanding Kremlin demands.
“Ukraine ‘leadership’ has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts,” Mr. Trump wrote, “and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia.”
He also again appeared to blame Ukraine for Russia’s full-scale invasion, saying that the war “would have NEVER HAPPENED” had there been “strong and proper” Ukrainian leadership.
Peace Proposal: Many of the 28 points in the proposed plan read like they had been drafted in the Kremlin. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States had “authored” the plan after a group of U.S. lawmakers claimed that he had said it was a Russian initiative. G20 leaders pushed back on demands that Ukraine cede territory and limit the size of its army, but said they believed the plan provided a basis for further negotiations, according to a joint statement.
