AFTERNOON NEWS NOTES:

TRUMP, ET. AL.

• Navarro is going to prison today.  He has a “prison consultant.”  Jesus.  CNN is interviewing the prison consultant, Justin Paperny.  This country.
• THE SUPREME COURT DID WHAT????????? It appears that this political hack of a Supreme Court is going to destroy the federal system.  The three cowardly (in former cases) dissenters say this “invites further chaos and crisis in immigration enforcement.”  (Note: Ya. Think?

ISRAEL

• Netanyahu has evidently “brushed aside” (NYT) the objections of the Biden administration and the international community and intends to go ahead with the ground invasion of Rafah.
• Israelis (not just those supporting Netanyahu) feel that a failure to do a ground invasion of Rafah would leave Hamas resilient enough to strike again.  (My thinking is that the most important of Hamas members would have moved south to Rafah into tunnels or through tunnels.  Also, Palestinians who had the most leverage with Hamas would also be in shelters provided by Hamas.  Even though Blinken is saying (NYT) that Israel’s goals in Rafah can be accomplished “by other means,” I don’t see how.)
• There are still evidently plans for Israelis and Americans to meet regarding alternatives to this ground invasion, despite what Netanyahu has said today.
• Attacks on the Al-Shifa Hospital have “drawn condemnation” (NYT) from Gazan health officials and others, but the operation has raised questions about how well the Israelis control northern Gaza.  Israel claimed that “senior Hamas officials” has regrouped there.
