Matt Bodner: We don’t know who the gunmen were. We haven’t heard that they have caught the gunmen. Very quickly reaching for the “terrorism” word. This will be very shocking to Russians. Safety is very important to Putanism. Putin claimed recently that all of Russia was unified behind him. People who voted for him, voted for security, which Putin promised.
McFaul: The Ukrainians do not use terrorist attacks, but Putin does. Putin is supposed to be the grand protector. Russians are asking why this happened. Yesterday an LGBTQ group was declared a terrorist group. This is what McFaul is seeing on his Russian social media accounts. “This is a setback” for Putin. This comes with increasing Ukrainian attacks within Russia.
